meet the designer behind HELENA MAGDALENA, Helena Pasquier
I had the incredible opportunity to intern with the fashion brand Helena Magdalena this summer. Founders Helena and Paul Pasquier welcomed me into their vibrant community and shared invaluable insights about the fashion industry. The French siblings began developing the brand in 2019, officially launching it in 2022. They focus on sourcing deadstock fabrics from luxury fashion houses in France, aiming to create timeless, high-quality garments. Helena serves as the lead designer, crafting each piece, while Paul manages the business operations. Working closely with Paul, I helped organize social media content and devise new marketing strategies. I also had the chance to sit down with Helena to learn about her journey as a designer. She started creating clothes at a young age, recalling, “I just instinctively made my own pieces… I actually made my first outfit when I was four.” We discussed her early experiences in fashion and the inspirations behind her work.
Helena learned to sew from her grandmother, who founded the lingerie brand Aubade. “It’s in my genes,” she explained. “My grandmother and I connected deeply, and she truly inspired me.” Helena Magdalena embodies the empowerment of women: “The brand is meant to celebrate and individualize women.” Helena shared her experiences growing up, saying, “I would often be told that I was putting myself in danger for wearing certain clothes. That made me realize I wanted to wear more feminine and sexy styles, but in a way that commanded respect.” The collections reflect the diverse personalities of women, inspired by Helena’s own feelings at different stages of her life. “There are times when I embrace my softer, more feminine side, and other times I want to feel sexier. These collections celebrate womanhood and the experiences that come with it. Ultimately, Helena Magdalena honors every woman, excelling in creating beautiful garments that empower and inspire freedom.
